Summary

The recent Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) held in March at the scenic Carlton Gardens saw Evergreen Infrastructure team up with the Australian Institute of Horticulture (AIH) to design a landscape exhibition stand. The goal was to highlight the rise in urban greening and the career paths in managing, designing, and building these spaces.

Promoting Urban Greening and Career Paths

Shade Smart Program and Urban Cooling Solutions

Adding to this, the New South Wales Council’s Shade Smart program joined to promote healthy and useful design solutions for the industry. The aim was to reduce exposure to harmful UV rays and work on methods of cooling the built environment.

Designing the 'AIH Grow Shade Wise' Garden

For the team at Evergreen Infrastructure, this was a great opportunity to build and design the ‘AIH Grow Shade Wise’ garden. The garden featured structures that provide quality shade while retaining the beauty of a landscaped inner suburbs garden.

Showcasing the Latest Green Trends

Innovative Shade-Centric Design

This exhibition garden showcased the latest trends in shade-centric garden design, including green walls, rooftop gardens, and urban horticultural practices applied throughout the garden space. All these elements contribute to urban cooling, reducing the use of fossil fuels to cool buildings, enhancing air quality, alleviating urban heat, and promoting biodiversity.

Success and Acknowledgements

Engaging Visitors and Highlighting Key Messages

The garden was a huge success, with numerous visitors stopping by to hear the messages AIH highlighted and seeing firsthand how to integrate urban greening solutions into the built environment.
